A Reintroduction to Boudoir- Raleigh NC Boudoir Photography
A Reintroduction to Boudoir: It has Never Been About the Photographs…
… but you knew that.
Girl, It’s been a little minute since we last spoke, so allow me to reintroduce myself and, while we are at it, let me reintroduce boudoir.
I'm Kimberly, the woman behind Nine19 Photography, a Black women-owned boudoir photography studio in Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. For more than 13 years, women have walked through my studio door (no matter the location) carrying nerves, doubt, and the hope that they might see themselves differently when it was all said and done.
Here is what those years have shown me. Boudoir photography is not about photography for me. It is about the woman in front of me. The camera is simply how I show her what I already see.

What Boudoir Photography Really Is
Boudoir photography is an intimate style of portrait photography, created in a private, beautifully styled space. Search the term and you will find plenty about lingerie, posing, and lighting and yes, all of that matters, but like, none of that is the point.
A boudoir session is a intentional decision. It is a woman choosing to take up space, to be seen on her own terms, and to stop waiting for perfection. Waiting for a weight change. Waiting for a huge milestone. Waiting for permission, to finally be herself.
The best part about boudoir is that you can do it whenever and however you’d like. You do not need a partner, a wedding, or an anniversary to book a boudoir photoshoot. Those are beautiful reasons, and they are welcome here but the gift is always, first, to yourself.
What a Boudoir Session at Nine19 Feels Like
You arrive at my studio on West Hargett Street, in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. The walls are a deep, moody peacock teal. The floors are warm hardwood. The plants are taller than you are. I designed the space to feel like a literal exhale.
You do not need to know how to pose. I guide you through every movement, from the tilt of your chin to the tips of your fingers. You will never be left wondering what to do with your body.
There is far more laughter than you expect. I will show you the back of my camera mid-session, if you wish, and I will watch your face when you see her.
This is a luxury boudoir experience, but luxury here is not about being fussy. It is about being cared for. You are the only thing on my mind while you are in my studio.
Holding Space: How I Show Up for You
Holding space means I am fully present with you. I am not rushing you, fixing you, or measuring you against anyone else. I am witnessing you.
You are allowed to bring all of it. The nerves. The story about your body you have carried since you were a girl. The season of life you are standing in right now, whether that is a beginning, an ending, or a becoming.
My job is to make the room safe enough for you to soften, and steady enough for you to feel powerful. I show up for the women I work with, every time. More sessions than not end in a hug.
The Shift: What a Woman Finds in Herself
Somewhere in the middle of a session, something changes. Her shoulders drop. Her chin lifts. She stops asking "do I look okay?" and starts moving like a woman who knows.
Then she sees her images. For once she is looking at herself through a lens of care instead of criticism. She does not meet a new woman. She meets the one who has been there all along.
What she finds is appreciation. For the body that has carried her through everything. For her softness and her strength. For the curves, the lines, and the marks that tell her story.
That is the real transformation of an empowering boudoir experience. Body confidence that follows you out the door, into your mirror, your relationships, and every room you walk into.
Boudoir as a Self-Love Practice
This is why my work grew beyond the studio and into Love You Louder, my self-love coaching practice. The same intention runs through everything I create.
My guided meditations ask you to get quiet enough to hear yourself. My journal, Love You Louder: The Self-Love Reset, gives you the pages to rewrite the way you speak to yourself. My coaching walks beside you while you practice.
Boudoir is that same work made visible. The journal asks you to write it. The meditation asks you to feel it. A boudoir session asks you to see it.
Self-love is not a mood you wait for. It is a practice you choose. A boudoir session is one of the boldest ways I know to choose it.
Who Boudoir Is For?
Boudoir is for every woman. Every body, every age, every size, every season. Brides and mothers. Women celebrating a milestone birthday. Women starting over. Women who simply decided it was time. And even some couples!
Do I need experience in front of a camera?
No. Most of the women I photograph have never done anything like this. I direct every pose, so all you have to do is show up.
What if I am nervous?
Nerves are welcome here. They usually mean you are about to do something that matters. We move at your pace, and you set every boundary.
Should I wait until I lose weight or feel ready?
No. The body you have today is the one worth photographing. Ready is not a feeling you wait for. It is a choice you make.
Is a boudoir session only a gift for a partner?
No. It can be a wedding gift, an anniversary gift, or a gift for no one but you. The woman it changes is always you.
Where is Nine19 Photography located?
My boudoir studio is at 19 W. Hargett St. in Downtown Raleigh, NC. I welcome women from Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, across the Triangle, and beyond!
Come As You Are…
If you have been thinking about a boudoir session for months, or for years, consider this your invitation. You do not have to become someone else first. You only have to arrive.
I will hold the space. I will hold the camera. You get to hold your head high.
Ready to see yourself the way I already do?
